SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF CAMERON PARK- EL DORADO HILLS
Picture
Soroptimist improves the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

November 6, 2022 Fashion Show to benefit our club was a Success!

Because of the Women of Cameron Park Country Club,  our Club was able to raise over $19,000 for our primary project of helping the victims of Human Trafficking in El Dorado County and Sacramento.  THANK YOU for all of the participants, the Cameron Park Country Club, and the contributors for the silent auction that made this all possible.

A Special Note from Joanne Tremelling, STOP Trafficking Committee member covering Northeast California :

STOP TRAFFICKING - Anti-trafficking update:
  • Yuba County Man Sentence to 10 years in Prison for Possession of Child Pornography (U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District) 9/29/20
  • Lathrop Ca. 5-day Sex Operation, 50 people arrested. 9/9/20
  • Sacramento Man Sentenced to 14 years in prison for Sex Trafficking 9/15/20
  • Three men arrested in Roseville over 2 months for trying to meet Minors for sex. 9/18/20
  • Folsom Man Accused of Soliciting Photos from Florida Girl Linked to 40 other Child Victims 11/21/20

These are recent examples of arrests to show you that sex-trafficking and sexual abuse is a very regional problem.

I would be very remiss if I didn’t thank the Cameron Park and El Dorado Hills Club for their recent donation. They held their 16th Annual Charity Luncheon and Fashion Show at the Cameron Park Country Club on Friday November 6th. The Cameron Park Country Club flyer said; “This event supports the Soroptimist International of Cameron Park and El Dorado Hills in their efforts to provide clothing and essential items to women and girls who have been rescued from the terrible ordeal of Human Trafficking in Sacramento and El Dorado County. This year all proceeds went to Anti-trafficking. They made over $13,000.00! Needless to say, I am extremely gratified for their support.

I have already started an assessment of needs and have started purchasing such items as warm coats, shoes and umbrellas. The Sacramento District Attorney’s Office is doing an update survey as to how many children are in the four County Region they work with. I will have access to that information.

Sheryl Longsworth of the Rancho Cordova & Gold River Club, put me in contact with Tina Aldama Crime Prevention Specialist with the Rancho Cordova Police Department, which holds a Hotel Watch Program. Rancho Cordova has a large number of hotels and motels. Hotel Watch focuses on preventing criminal activity and keeping the Rancho Cordova hospitality communities safe. I will be meeting with them after the first of the year.

I wish all of you a great holiday season, and thank all of you who still continue to be vigilant about sex trafficking of minors in our Region. I won’t be making a report in December, but again I wish all of you the best.

Respectfully submitted,  Joanne Tremelling
